The Soft99 Glaco De Cleaner is the all-rounder of the Glaco range for regular glass cleaning. Unlike ordinary glass cleaners that just clean and then flash off, the De Cleaner leaves a thin water-repellent layer on the glass. The formula is built on a mix of cleaning alcohols and water-repellent resin — the alcohols cut through grease, fingerprints, bug splatter and road film, while the resin stays behind after you wipe as an invisible protective layer. How the Glaco De Cleaner's alcohol-resin formula works

The Glaco De Cleaner uses a two-phase formula of cleaning alcohols and water-repellent resin. The alcohol component does the actual cleaning: it dissolves greasy dirt like fingerprints, road film and bug splatter and flashes off without residue. The resin component stays behind after you wipe as a thin film on the glass and forms the water-repellent layer. This film is much thinner than with a dedicated sealant like the Glaco Roll On Large or the Glaco DX, but it gives you a measurable hydrophobic effect from around 60 km/h. The key advantage of this formula: the cleaning alcohols are chosen so they don't lift existing Glaco sealants. Ordinary glass cleaners — especially ones with aggressive surfactants or ammonia — can strip hydrophobic coatings layer by layer. The De Cleaner only cleans the contaminants sitting on the sealant, without touching the sealant itself. That makes it the only glass cleaner in the Glaco system explicitly recommended for looking after sealed glass.

Using the Glaco De Cleaner properly — outside and inside glass

How you use the Glaco De Cleaner depends on where you're working. For the outside of the windscreen: give the bottle a quick shake, spray the De Cleaner evenly onto the glass from 15 to 20 centimetres away and spread it in straight passes with a clean microfibre cloth. Then buff off with the dry side of the cloth or a second cloth to avoid streaks. For the inside of the windscreen: spray the De Cleaner onto a microfibre cloth — not straight onto the glass, to keep overspray off the dashboard and the vents. Then wipe the inside glass in straight, overlapping passes. The inside glass picks up a lot of greasy and nicotine film that badly hurts visibility in low sun — the De Cleaner pulls that film off reliably. The same technique works for the side windows. One common mistake: using too much product. Two or three sprays per half of the glass are plenty — too much product leaves a thicker film that can streak as it dries.

Beading and protection — what the De Cleaner delivers as a glass cleaner

The beading from the Glaco De Cleaner is a nice bonus, but no substitute for a full windscreen sealant. The water-repellent resin layer kicks in from around 60 km/h — on motorway runs raindrops visibly clear faster than on untreated glass. In town traffic under 60 km/h the effect is less pronounced. The beading lasts a few days to a week — but it's renewed every time you clean. For comparison: the Glaco Q as a 2-in-1 product gives you a much stronger beading effect from 45 km/h with six to eight weeks of durability. The De Cleaner is primarily a glass cleaner with a bonus sealant, not the other way round. Its main job is streak-free cleaning while protecting existing sealants. On unsealed glass it at least gives you a light base of protection and can work as a low-commitment way into the world of glass sealing.

Glaco De Cleaner vs ordinary glass cleaners — the difference

The Glaco De Cleaner differs from ordinary supermarket glass cleaners in three key ways. First: ordinary glass cleaners only clean — the De Cleaner cleans and seals. Second: most standard glass cleaners contain surfactants and sometimes ammonia, which attack hydrophobic coatings. If you've treated your car with a Glaco sealant and then use an ordinary glass cleaner, you break the sealant down a bit with every clean. The De Cleaner is formulated specifically to look after the sealant. Third: the streak-free finish.
