Top Coat Dull = matt-original (OEM-Look), Glossy = mittlerer Glanz, High Gloss = hoher Glanz.

COLOURLOCK "Leather Colour" (BMW) — BMW leather standard colour

COLOURLOCK Leather Colour for BMW: the original standard colour for true-to-factory leather repairs

What is COLOURLOCK Leather Colour for BMW? — This exact-match leather standard colour lets you do factory-true colour refreshes and repairs on BMW leather, giving you a lasting, even, OEM-typical finish.

COLOURLOCK Leather Colour (BMW) is a precisely matched leather standard colour for the professional repair, refresh and re-dyeing of BMW leather interiors. The colours are based on original BMW colour samples and are formulated to blend seamlessly into existing surfaces. Ideal for seat bolsters, steering wheels, armrests, door cards and all pigmented smooth leather in the cabin, wherever colour accuracy and an OEM look are what matter.

Original BMW shades – Developed from factory-close colour samples.
For repair & refresh – Ideal for abrasion, fading and colour loss.
Professional finish – Great adhesion and an even colour result.

💡 Day-to-day from Detailing1: On BMW jobs we see the same thing again and again — colour loss on seat bolsters and steering wheels gets masked with cheap care spray that doesn't last four weeks. With Leather Colour (BMW) dabbed on with a microfibre pad in 2–3 thin coats, 30 min to dry between coats, then sealed with Top Coat Dull at the end — the result holds 2–3 years, just like factory.

Prep, dab on thin, seal with Top Coat

Leather Colour (BMW) goes on in 2–3 thin coats, 30 min to dry between coats, sealed with Top Coat at the end. Thin coats hold for years, thick coats crack.

Before you lay down colour, wash the leather with leather cleaner and degrease it with Plastic Cleaner or cleaning alcohol. Deep cracks and abrasion marks get filled with Filler or Super Filler and sanded smooth with 1000-grit pad. You then dab the BMW shades on with a microfibre pad, work them out with a soft brush, or spray them on for large-area repairs.

After a full cure of at least 4 hours, seal with Top Coat — Dull for a matte, original OEM look, Glossy for a medium sheen, High Gloss for maximum brilliance. One litre of Leather Colour covers about 8–10 m² of leather, a 250-ml bottle is enough for a complete pair of seats plus the steering wheel. The same workflow runs on every part, from the seat cushion through the door card to the centre armrest.

Pigmented leather yes, natural and suede leather no

Leather Colour (BMW) is only for pigmented smooth leather — the standard in modern automotive. Natural leather, aniline leather and suede behave differently and need other COLOURLOCK product lines.

The water-based formula bonds with the pigment layer of modern automotive leather, stays elastic and moves with the leather without cracking. On natural or open-pored aniline leather the colour soaks into the fibre unevenly and stains the leather blotchy — that's where Leather Fresh (BMW) as a care variant or dedicated aniline lines come in. Suede, velour and Alcantara get treated with Nubuk Fresh (BMW), which keeps the rough fibre structure intact instead of gluing it down.

When colour accuracy to the original factory shade matters and you're restoring the part over a large area, Leather Colour is the right call. When you only need to fix a small spot (steering-wheel wear, a single crack), Fluid Leather (BMW) in the 20-ml tube goes further and works more precisely. When the leather just looks slightly faded, Leather Fresh as a care variant is usually enough.

For detailers, workshops and classic- and youngtimer owners

Leather Colour (BMW) is the professional pick for detailers, independent workshops and keen owners who put value retention and original BMW colour accuracy above quick care fixes.

On lease returns, used-car prep and classic- and youngtimer restorations, OEM colour accuracy is what decides value retention and sale price. The professional 4-step workflow (clean, sand, dye, seal) needs 4 hours including dry time per part and delivers a result that holds 2–3 years like factory. One litre of Leather Colour costs about 30 cents per 100 ml of worked area — a shop calculation including Top Coat lands at around 12 euros per part.

For pure care routines without shop tools, Leather Colour is overkill — Leather Fresh (BMW) is enough there. For spot repairs on the steering wheel or single cracks, Fluid Leather or the Leather Care Sets (BMW) are more economical. But if you want to restore complete seat bolsters, steering wheels or door cards and you care about original BMW colour accuracy, there's no way around the 1-litre bottle or the 250-ml size.

What is COLOURLOCK Leather Colour for BMW?

COLOURLOCK Leather Colour (BMW) is a water-based, elastic leather standard dye in original BMW shades. It is used for repairing, refreshing, or recolouring pigmented smooth leather in the vehicle interior — seats, steering wheels, armrests, door panels.

How do I properly apply Leather Colour (BMW)?

First, thoroughly clean and degrease the leather. Fill and sand any damage with Filler. Then, dab, wipe, or spray on thin layers of Leather Colour — 2–3 thin coats are better than one thick one. After complete drying, seal with Top Coat (Dull/Glossy/High Gloss).

What is the difference from Leather Fresh?

Leather Colour is the professional repair dye (1L/250ml, sealable with Top Coat). Leather Fresh is the conditioning colour cream (1L/100ml) for lighter refreshes without extensive preparation. For deep abrasion → Leather Colour; for dull surfaces → Leather Fresh.

Do the colours really match BMW exactly?

The colour shades are based on original BMW factory colour samples. However, for heavily faded leather, we still recommend a colour test in an inconspicuous area, as the original leather darkens or fades over the years.

What are the most common mistakes we see in the workshop?

Three classics: (1) Leather not degreased beforehand — paint does not adhere. (2) Too thick a layer applied — cracks when drying. (3) Top Coat sealing omitted — abrasion resistance less than 6 months. With proper preparation, the result lasts 2–3 years.

Do I absolutely need a Top Coat?

Yes, for lasting abrasion resistance. Without Top Coat, the colour on seat bolsters and steering wheels will wear off within a few weeks. Top Coat Dull = matte-original (OEM-look), Glossy = medium gloss, High Gloss = high gloss.

Care instructions for Leather Standard Colour (BMW):

Leather Colour (BMW) is exclusively suitable for pigmented smooth leather – the standard in modern automotive applications. Natural leather, aniline leather, and suede react differently and require different COLOURLOCK product lines.

The water-based formulation bonds with the pigment layer of modern automotive leathers, remains elastic, and accommodates leather movements without cracking. With natural leather or open-pore aniline leather, the colour penetrates the fibres unevenly and stains the leather – in these cases, Leather Fresh (BMW) as a care variant or special aniline lines are used. Suede, velour, and Alcantara are treated with Nubuk Fresh (BMW), which preserves the rough fibre structure instead of sticking it together.

If colour accuracy to the original factory colour is crucial and the component is to be extensively restored, Leather Colour is the right choice. If only a small area (steering wheel abrasion, individual tear) needs to be repaired, Fluid Leather (BMW) in the 20 ml tube is more economical and precise. If the leather only appears slightly faded, Leather Fresh as a care variant is usually sufficient.
