What is the Koch-Chemie Protector Wax? A preservation wax concentrate built on polyfunctional reactive components that goes on after every wash as a wet sealant, building up paint protection layer by layer with a Lotus effect. It's no replacement for a polish or a ceramic coating.
Koch-Chemie Protector Wax is a preservation wax from Koch-Chemie in Unna, originally developed for gantry car washes and now well established as a manual wet sealant for hand washing. It works through polyfunctional reactive components that bond with the paint surface in a network-like structure. The pH value of 4.5 means the wax layer keys in chemically harder than pH-neutral spray sealants do. Free of mineral oil hydrocarbons and VDA-compliant Class A.
Day-to-day from Detailing1: Always lay the Protector Wax down on the wet, freshly washed car — never on dry paint. Spray the concentrate on neat and you risk streaks on dark paint, because the active concentration is too high. The right dilution: 30 ml per 1 litre of water. Best applied with a foam sprayer, which gives you even coverage and less product waste. Rinse it off thoroughly with the pressure washer within 3–5 minutes — never let it dry on.
Applying the Koch-Chemie Protector Wax takes under 10 minutes and works with no polisher, no microfibre cloth and no cure time. That sets it apart from hard waxes, which need 20–30 minutes of working time per car, or ceramic coatings, which take paint correction as prep.
Mix 30 ml of concentrate into 1 litre of water — best in a foam sprayer like the Gloria FM10 or a pump-up spray bottle. Spray the solution evenly onto the wet, freshly washed car. Start at the roof and work your way down: bonnet, wings, doors, bumpers.
The product works straight away — you can see from the changed surface tension that the reactive components are keying in. The 1:33 dilution sounds light, but it's chosen on purpose: Koch-Chemie designed the Pw for car-wash use, where only 13–19 ml goes on undiluted per car.
After 2–3 minutes of dwell time, rinse everything off with the pressure washer, top to bottom. Thoroughly, with plenty of water. This is the critical step: rinse too little and you get white wax residue on dark paint.
Then wipe the leftover water off mirrors, door edges and the fuel cap with a drying towel. The rest runs off on its own thanks to the sheeting. A common mistake we see day-to-day: some people then spray a finish spray on top. That's counterproductive, because the spray partly lifts the fresh wax layer back off.
Koch-Chemie offers its own spray bottle with a printed dilution scale — handy, but not a must. Any standard pump sprayer or foam sprayer does the job. At a self-service wash bay you apply the solution right after the rinse cycle and use the bay's pressure washer to rinse off.
The Koch-Chemie Protector Wax gives you a deep, wet high gloss — especially visible on dark paint after the third or fourth application. The gloss build is cumulative: every layer cross-links with the one before.
Day-to-day, a single application lasts 3–5 weeks. That sounds short next to ceramic coatings with 12+ months of durability — but it's a different concept. The Pw is a care routine, not a one-off shield.
If you wash every 1–2 weeks and apply the Pw each time, you've got lasting protection that beats a neglected one-off sealant. Detailers in the community report that after a week of bad weather and 1,000 kilometres their car was cleaner than after a hand wash without the Pw.
That comes down to the Lotus effect: dirt particles cling less to the hydrophobic surface and get partly washed off by the next rain. This self-cleaning behaviour is called sheeting — the water forms no standing droplets (beading), it runs off as a closed film and carries dirt particles with it. The Pw gives you both: beading across the flat panels and sheeting at the edges.
What the Protector Wax can't do: fill scratches or restore oxidised paint. Fine swirls are visually masked by the gloss build, but not chemically bonded. If you've got visible scratches, you need a polish first before the wax makes sense. The order: wash, polish, then seal with the Pw — not the other way round.
On ceramic-coated cars the Pw is redundant — the coating already has better durability and hydrophobicity. Here the Koch-Chemie Spray Sealant S0.02 is the better pick as a coating top-up. If you want to protect uncoated paint and you wash regularly: Protector Wax. If you want to maintain an existing coating: Spray Sealant.
The Koch-Chemie Protector Wax is made for drivers who wash regularly and want to pick up paint protection with minimal effort. No prep, no cure time, no re-buffing. Spray on, rinse off, done. If you want your paint protected between washes without booking in a dedicated sealing day, the Pw is the right tool.
The Pw makes particular sense if you wash weekly or every other week and don't want to plan in a separate sealing step. For self-service-bay users it slots straight into the existing wash routine. With a pleasant cherry scent instead of the typical chemical smell of many wax products, you can use it in an underground car park or with the garage door shut, too. It works on glass as well — the windscreen picks up a light water-repellent effect from the Pw that improves visibility in the rain.
The Protector Wax is less suited to you if you only wash every 4–8 weeks. The protection layer won't build then and you're better off with the Koch-Chemie Hydro Foam Sealant S0.03. As a foam sealant in the pressure-washer workflow, the Hydro Foam Sealant gives longer durability per single application. For an overview of all the options, take a look at our spray sealant category.
With the 1-litre bottle and 30 ml per wash you get around 33 applications — that's half a year at weekly use. The 10-litre version pays off for businesses and fleets running several cars. The 20-litre version is meant for car-wash operators and commercial detailers who dose the Pw by machine.
Store frost-free, and never keep diluted product — always mix it fresh. The reactive components lose their cross-linking ability once diluted. The concentrate itself keeps indefinitely when stored correctly between 5 and 30 °C. A tip for winter: the Pw contains no mineral oil hydrocarbons, which makes it kinder to the environment than many solvent-based wax products — relevant if you wash at a self-service bay with biological waste-water treatment.
The full wash workflow with the Protector Wax looks like this: pre-wash with snow foam, contact wash with car shampoo using the two-bucket method, rinse clear, spray the Pw on and rinse off. Under 30 minutes for the whole car, sealing included. No separate step, no swapping tools, no extra drying time thanks to the sheeting effect. That makes the Protector Wax the logical finish to any hand wash — from the occasional washer to the fleet operator.

Koch-Chemie Protector Wax (Pw) is a preserving wax concentrate applied as a wet sealant after vehicle washing. It creates a lotus effect with high gloss on paintwork, plastic, rubber, and convertible tops. The product originates from the car wash sector and is used as a spray solution (30 ml per 1 liter of water) manually or mechanically.
Mix 30 ml of concentrate in 1 liter of water and spray the solution onto the wet, freshly washed vehicle using a foam sprayer or pump spray bottle. After 2–3 minutes of dwell time, rinse thoroughly with a high-pressure cleaner. Remove residual water from edges and mirrors with a drying towel. Do not store diluted product – always mix fresh.
Protector Wax is a preserving wax with buildable, layered protection – ideal for weekly washes. The Hydro Foam Sealant S0.03 is a foam sealant with a longer durability per single application, applied via the foam lance reservoir on a high-pressure cleaner. If you wash weekly: Protector Wax. If you wash every 3–4 weeks: Hydro Foam Sealant.
Technically yes, but it is superfluous. An intact ceramic coating already offers better hydrophobicity and durability than Pw. For coatings, we instead recommend the Koch-Chemie Spray Sealant S0.02 as a refresh – it is specially formulated for the maintenance of existing sealants and does not impair the coating's properties.
If the diluted product dries on the paintwork, white wax residues will appear – especially visible on dark paint. This often happens in direct sunlight or if too little water is used for rinsing. The solution: never apply in the sun, rinse within 3–5 minutes, and use the high-pressure cleaner at full pressure. Dried residues can be removed with Koch-Chemie Finish Spray Exterior.
At the recommended dosage of 30 ml per application, the 1-liter bottle lasts for approximately 33 car washes. With weekly use, one bottle lasts over 7 months. The 10-liter variant is intended for businesses and frequent washers – it lasts for approximately 330 applications. Always mix diluted product fresh and do not store.
Mix 30 ml of Protector Wax concentrate in 1 liter of water — preferably in a foam sprayer or a pump spray bottle with a dilution scale. The Koch-Chemie spray bottle has a printed dosing aid, but any commercially available foam sprayer works just as well.
Spray the solution evenly onto the wet, freshly washed vehicle. Start at the roof and work your way down: hoods, doors, fenders, bumpers. You can treat plastic and rubber parts as well — the Pw also protects these surfaces from fading.
After 2–3 minutes of exposure, rinse everything thoroughly with a high-pressure cleaner. From top to bottom, with full pressure and plenty of water. This is the most important step: Too little rinsing leaves white wax residues, especially on dark paint. Then, simply remove the remaining water from door edges, mirror housings, and the fuel cap with a drying towel — the rest will run off by itself due to the sheeting effect.
Notes: Never apply Protector Wax to dry or hot paint — in the sun, the product will dry before it can react. Work in the shade at temperatures above 25°C or wash early in the morning. Always mix diluted product fresh and do not store it, as the reactive components in the dilution lose their effectiveness. Store concentrate frost-free between 5 and 30°C. Pw is unnecessary on ceramic-sealed vehicles — use the Spray Sealant S0.02 here as a coating refresh.
